At Portology, we are passionate bon vivants with a love for cooking, wine, and bringing people together. For us, it's all about taste, quality, and experience. Fine wines are meant to be shared with family, friends, and business relations.
Our passion for wine and travel led to the establishment of Portology, an independent wine company specializing in selecting exceptional wines for both corporate clients and private enthusiasts. During our travels, we discover unique wines and collaborate with reliable wine producers from various wine regions.
The name 'Portology' originated during a holiday in Porto, known for its rich tradition in Port wines. Here, we discovered high-quality Port and exclusive wines that today serve as a significant source of inspiration for our assortment.
We focus on professional buyers such as importers, distributors, and hospitality businesses, with a strong emphasis on Asian markets. Additionally, through our webshop, we offer a carefully selected range of quality wines to consumers in the Netherlands.
With Portology, we combine craftsmanship, international wine knowledge, and a keen eye for quality, so we can always provide our customers with exceptional wines with a story.
The face behind Portology
My name is Maxim and I am the founder of Portology.
At heart, I am a true epicurean. I enjoy everything that makes life more beautiful: travelling, discovering new cultures, tasting unique dishes, and of course, the wines that go with them. During my travels, I am always searching for local flavours, traditions, and stories that bring people together at the table.
Besides being an entrepreneur, I am primarily a family man. Together with my wife and our two children, we enjoy good food, a nice glass of wine, and the joy of being together. Our home is regularly open to friends and family, where a well-stocked charcuterie board, exquisite dishes, and a relaxed atmosphere are virtually never absent. You can see that passion for hospitality and enjoyment reflected in Portology.
For me, cooking is much more than a hobby. I am constantly experimenting with wine and food pairings and take great pleasure in creating a complete experience. From selecting the right ingredients to pouring the perfect wine with a dish.
Friends and family often say: "It's always a party at your place." Whether it's an elaborate meal, a cosy get-together, or a spontaneous evening together, there's always something delicious on the table. I enjoy hosting people, surprising them, and ensuring everyone feels welcome. The greatest compliment for me is to see others enjoying themselves. For me, wine is not just about what's in the glass, but mainly about the moments shared with it.
That idea also forms the basis of Portology. I don't select wines because they are popular, but because they tell a story. A story about a winemaker, a family, a region, or a tradition. By collaborating with traditional wineries and partners, I aim to offer products that combine quality, craftsmanship, and experience.
Whether it's a special bottle for home, a champagne for a festive occasion, or a unique business gift: ultimately, it's about the same thing. Bringing people together, creating memories, and enjoying the beautiful things in life.
